Liability

In plain words

Who has to pay when something goes wrong.

A liability clause decides who carries the cost of damage, injury, or loss and usually caps it. Limited liability means there is a ceiling on what one side can owe the other.

In a sentence

“The rental contract puts liability for water damage on the tenant.”
